We are more than a bit excited over this amazing Atlanta based design store called Pieces Inc. and, within the first few minutes of exploring their website, we knew you would be too! It was started in 2004 by the talented Lee Kleinhelter who set out to bridge the “gap between the high-end antiques and mass produced items offered in Atlanta”, and she could not have been more successful. Using her interior design background, inherent style, and good taste, she has put together a collection of home furnishing and accessories that can fit in on both the East and West Coast.

We also love how her site is organized by “color”, “material”, and “item category”, making it fun and easy to see her inventory. A few of our favorite pieces are her Ceramic Animal Tea Light Candles, White Resin Deer Antlers, and Glossy Glass Glasses—just to name a few.

If you can’t make it to Atlanta to see her inventory in person, then check out her online store today!

Wallpaper, wall stickers, graphic pillows, oh my! Our love for everything ferm LIVING runs deep, and each time we visit their site we find a little more that we love about this company.

Not only is their wallpaper eye-catchingly beautiful with patterns like Branch, Squares, and Voila, but they also have amazing wall stickers that we can’t find anywhere else. We love their Keys, Suitcases, and Birch. The best part is you can temporarily apply them to your wall, and they make a great fit for any apartment or nonpermanent living space. Also, if you want something a little more portable, all of their graphic pillows and accessories are to die for!

Think it can’t get any better? If you ever wanted to wallpaper a space by yourself, then you must check out their amazing “How to Wallpaper Video” that breaks down the process so anyone can do it themselves!

Check out ferm LIVING today and get obsessed!

Sometimes the stars align and an interior designer and a real-estate investor’s mindset are combined, creating a mind that is gifted in every aspect of home design and what we see as pure talent. That is just what happened when the brilliant Reed Woodson was born. With design and real estate in his blood, passion in his heart, and knowledge in his brain, Woodson began his career in 1997 overhauling apartments in San Francisco and New York City. During these first five years he bought, designed, and built several amazing homes until he decided in late 2009 to open his own firm called Beedus & Jardin.

Beedus & Jardin is a real-estate firm that offers interior design construction management as well as green consulting services to its clients. Woodson describes his style as “generally modern organic”. To quote him, he says, “I love mixing raw materials like glass, brick, concrete, wood, and steel with sleek architectural elements or high-end fixtures. It’s a delicate mix between the two, but if done properly people will never forget it.”

This style can be seen in two amazing SoHo apartments he has recently worked on that are featured on the Beedus & Jardin website. Each image is inspiring, and we love the “before” and “after” contrast of each space. Check out Reed Woodson’s work today and keep Beedus & Jardin in mind when your next design project develops!

Winter is finally on its way, and no matter how much we love the summer, we’re hoping for a white Christmas. This week, we’ve rummaged through The Future Perfect, one of our favourite stores in Williamsburg that has just recently opened up a new location in the East Village, and we’ve found a bunch of great stuff to prepare for winter. Check out the Nos Da Throw wool blankets and cushions to snuggle up in and read a book during the snowy season. They also feature a great line of poufs all made out of wool and in different shapes and sizes. We love the Frank, Henry, and Ernest Poufs with their wintery sweater touch. For this holiday season, go out and explore The Future Perfect at their new location for fun and quirky items for your own space or as great gifts!

Tony Duquette was a favored interior designer of Hollywood for more then five decades and to this day remains a design god for many. His over the top interiors, signature style of exotic excess, and love of pairing the old with the new to create a outrageous space is as influential today as it was when he first designed it.

Honoring Duquette and making it possible for everyone to bring a little of him into their homes, Remains Lighting has created their own collection of lights inspired by him. This collection launched last week, and we can already tell that you will fall in love with each of these pieces.

Remains sited the interiors of his Robertson Boulevard Studios, the LA Music Center, and his work with films such as Lovely to Look At as their influence when designing these pieces. Each piece embodies that exotic excess we love about Duquette while creating something that we know everyone will love.

Check out this collection today at Remains Lighting or peruse through one of the many Tony Duquette books and get inspired!

Just like in arithmetic, there is a proper order of operations in interior design. Whether you’re moving into a new space, or just redecorating an old one, if you follow the correct chronology you’ll better achieve your desired look, and in half the time! In following a series of informed steps, you’ll avoid having to backtrack or repeat yourself. And, because you’ll be approaching the project with structure and vision, the chance of you getting distracted, second-guessing your choices, or making irreversible blunders will be far less.

To begin, take a look at our checklist below. If you are seeking to make any or all of these changes, our suggestions apply directly to you! Don’t proceed with reckless abandon, grab a pencil and take some notes:

Do you want to change the location of your TV, ceiling lights or electrical/cable outlet?

Do you want to install wall-to-wall carpeting or change the finish of your floor?

Do you want to add any built-ins to the room?

Do you want to replace any of your old furniture?

Do you want to change the layout – potentially changing the location of your wall art?

Sound familiar? If so, heed our recommended schedule. Here’s the breakdown, and why:

Step 1: Determine the Layout. Study the room in its current state and decide the placement of the major pieces. Moving a sofa, for example, will initiates a ripple effect of other decisions, such as the location of the television or ceiling lights. These decisions must be made first to avoid a botched end-result!

Step 2: Replace old furniture. You’ve envisioned the layout of the room, so now is an ideal time to pause and think about the logistics of your lifestyle and whether or not the room is still meeting your needs. Ask yourself the following questions: Do you have enough storage? Do you need more counter space? Is your bedside table large enough? Is the couch spacious enough for those snuggle sessions with your sweetie? In redoing a room you should seek to do more than just make it beautiful, it should be comfortable and purposeful as well. If you decide you’re ready to purchase a few more pieces, its best to call early on in the process and determine how long it will take to have everything delivered. This will tell you when you need to place your orders, help you maintain a schedule and a trajectory, and eliminate the possibility of having to pay for storage because all your items don’t fit!

Step 3: Don’t get your wires crossed. Wiring and electrical details should always be sorted out before executing any actual design. Hanging a TV may seem simple enough, but first holes must be drilled to allow wires to run hidden behind the wall. (Fear not! These holes are small in diameter and are easy plaster patched!) Also, depending on the size of the TV, an installation team could need to secure braces in the wall for added strength. All these possibilities are best factored in at the beginning of a project, to help keep things on schedule.

Step 4: Get your Built-ins built in! Do not proceed with laying down carpet before adding your built-in pieces. Carpet installers will always work around any structure, so it’s a far greater hassle to add permanent fixtures after carpet has gone down. If you’re working with hardwood floors, it is still beneficial to secure your built-in structures before treating the floor with stain or paint. Simply strip the floor first, have the built-in delivered when the floor is raw, then finish the floors with the desired treatment. Scratches in the unsealed wood are much easier to take care of at this stage than if the wood is finished.

Step 5: Hang Your Artwork. Now that you know the room’s layout and the placement of major structures, it is time to hone in on the aesthetic details. Have your changes made you reconsider the placement of your art? If so, be sure to remove all the nails from their previous perches and patch the holes to make for a clean, professional-looking paint job.

Step 6: PAINT! Now that you’re working with a smooth, finished surface, it’s time to paint. It’s best to do so with as little furniture in the room as possible, but if unavoidable, be sure to protect your pieces with a plastic tarp.

Step 7: Install Your Carpet. If you are laying down carpet in the room, it is crucial that you do so after painting has been completed. As careful as you may think you are, spills, drips, and accidents happen! It is very difficult and time consuming to try to protect your carpet with tarp and tape, so avoid this need altogether. This rule applies for flooring as well. Paint first, while the floor is still raw, then have it sealed/stained or otherwise treated. Raw wood is easier to sand, while removing imperfections from treated wood is virtually impossible!

So follow our steps to success! A better plan = fewer mistakes = less money spent and less time wasted! How’s that for arithmetic?
