Knickknacks and Recaps – A Week of Rustic Chic

It’s been a long week, but a beautiful one for design!  This weekend, in between eating BBQ and lathering up with SPF, we suggest you scope our stunning scoops from this week’s blogosphere – you won’t be disappointed!

Apartment Therapy - had an incredible roundup this week.  All their showcased pieces were from Country Living,a company specializing in contemporary cross stitching in all its possible forms. Their selections are simple and affordable, so don’t be shy.

Design Sponge - spotted the delightful designer, Donna Wilson, at last week’s design showcase, ICFF. Her wood grain throw is dazzling, and it’s just one of many star pieces in her arsenal.

Poppy Talk - caught this industrial chic cabinet from Pottery Barn, which is ideal for any foyer.  This piece is cool, edgy, and will get some “oooo”s and “aaahh”s in your entryway!

Future Perfect

Even though Thanksgiving has past, we would like to give a little thanks. Although having opened a store in September 2003, this month Future Perfect has finally gone online! If you cannot make it to their amazing retail store in Brooklyn, you now can enjoy their curated collection of high modern furniture and accessories.

Showcasing the best and newest in the market, their website now displays the pieces fresh from the ICFF and young designers from around the world, making it one of the best interior design resources in the city. We are loving the cool antler chandelier, which comes in a larger size as well as a table lamp. Take a plane, train or automobile to their store in Brooklyn, located at 115 North 6th Street or now, thankfully, visit their website. Happy Hunting!

 Longhi Doors

Longhi Doors

I think most of you know, I’m not a designer anymore. So, I’m a little out of the loop when it comes to materials and architectural finishes. I was really excited to discover Longhi at ICFF. Longhi is an Italian furniture maker, but the exciting thing is they make really beautiful contemporary interior doors. They are a stunning fabrication of aluminum and whatever panel material you choose.

They have lots of glass options; different colors and opacities are available as well as a variety of laminated glass (two layers of glass with stuff between them to give it texture) and etched glass. There are also a number of wood choices available. And if you need a series of sliders for a wide opening, they’ve got it covered. To view these options in person, please go to their New York showroom/distributor Ambient Italia; 285 Spring Street, NYC; 212 255 0520.

ICFF 2008 Opening Party

There are may events that go on surrounding ICFF, so much so, the week of the fair has been dubbed “NY Design Week”.  The event you really don’t want to miss is the official ICFF Opening Party that happens every year at The Museum of Modern Art. Industry people, including editors, vendors, designers and even curators go to this event to mingle, network and socialize amidst a beautiful setting–the MOMA sculpture garden. Check out the pics from last year on the Metropolis. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased via Ticket Web. MOMA is located at 11 West 53rd Street (btwn 5th and 6th Avenues), NYC.  (212) 708 9400
