From Stockholm with Love

Nearly every Sunday stroll through Soho reveals another hidden gem, and this week was no different. With our coffee and paper in hand, we stumbled upon the Design House Stockholm, a company of extraordinary range and beauty, which has effectively changed the way people approach their living and working spaces.

Their aim is to collaborate imaginitively with dozens of independent designers,up-and-coming talents, and established, iconic artists to create products that beautify one’s space and improve their lifestyle. Their collection ranges from the conceptual to to the pragmatic, from the decoratively maximalist to the utterly . A Dash of Decor

Tired of the same ‘ol choices in design and decor? Sometimes for those once-in-a-lifetime finds and deals you need to explore new shores, and Dash & Albert is the perfect example of a gem that’s worth the jet lag!  We love the English company’s incredible patterns and outragously affordable prices, from a 2’ x 3’ rug for $28, to a 6’ x 9’ beauty for less than $200 USD! Plaid and stripes are the look of the season, and D&A’s area rug selection delivers on the trend. We’ve displayed our favorite of the cotton-woven creations, but the collection is worth viewing in its entirety, so head right to their site!

Shining Light on the Past

Shining Light on the Past

In 1879 Thomas Edison invented the first incandescent light bulb. 130 year later its industrial, minimalist design has been reintroduced with a modern twist.  Check out these fabulous lights that merge old and new.

Pottery Barn- Edison Chandelier

The Edison Chandelier from Pottery Barn is inspired by turn-of –the-century designs from the likes of Adolf Loos. This fixture has simplified the chandelier concept, reducing it to its basic elements but elevating it with an incredible design. It is suitable for any style home and reasonably priced at $399.00.

Michele Varian – Edison Lamp

The simple Edison by Michele Varian almost completely mimics the original Edison creation, but the modern addition of the glass exterior light cover makes it safer for home use. Priced at $175, this lamp easily doubles as a bedside light and an art piece. If you are in NYC, Varian’s flagship store at 35 Crosby Street is a must-see.

House of Antique Hardware

One of our favorite sources, House of Antique Hardware has a wide selection of appropriate bulbs for your Edison-style fixture.  Pay them a visit to complete the funky, modernized look.
