Art & China’s Revolution

Chairman Mao…probably the most influential Chinese person since Confucius, paradoxically, was responsible not only for death and turmoil amongst his people, but was also the mastermind behind a major cultural revolution. The focus was mostly to deify him of course, but this spawned a new wave of art in China that still maintains a strong influence on contemporary artists of today.
A broad collection of these works can be seen in the first exhibit of its kind, “Art and China’s Revolution” at the Asia Society. Paintings, woodcuts, ink paintings and to our delight a selection of smaller objects including matchbooks and dishware are all included. On view now through January 11th. Located at 725 Park Avenue at 70th St.
