In September of 2007, Burlock was blessed with new neighbors, Open Space, a gallery and studio that focuses on street art and ephemeral work. Run by the almost-married and endlessly energetic, Kalene Rivers and Dan Weise, the duo brings a much-needed edge to Beacon. Both are artists in their own right, but make their living mainly through graphic design. (One of their most recent projects involved designing and hand-screening the covers of the Wooster Collective’s newest publication on Danish street artist Armsrock).
The gallery’s most recent show, Limited Run, is a beautiful selection of short-run prints and zines by artists such as Wayne Pate, Michael Defeo, and Dan Funderburgh (well known to the design world for his City Park wallpaper featured in the NY Times). The show features over 100 works, most of which are under $100 and can be purchased at their online store. The show runs through February 5th. Open Space is located at 510 Main Street, Beacon, NY (718) 207-3793.
